05 Suz DF15 hesitates at low RPM- choke

This is a 2005 Suzuki DF15 that I bought a couple months ago. It ran great and was said to have very low hours and it really looked brand new. Anyway, I have run it alot since I bought it and it really runs very smooth except for cold starting and shortly thereafter. The engine must be choked for a little bit or it will just die right out. Once I can get it to idle, putting it in gear and throttling up only gives me a little acceleration and short bursts of power. Once this issue works through the system it runs great. If I stop and fish, the motor will start back up and go if it hasn't been off too long, if it has, it hesitates for a little bit before accelerating. Also, choking the engine while it is going and when it hesitates seems to bring it up to speed, but I don't do this. Does anyone have a term for this or know where this problem was solved in another post? If not, I would really like some help because Suzuki mechanics are a couple hours away and that seems to be my only option right now.

Thanks, Tyler

If choking helps it means the motor is running too lean. May have trash or some type of restrictions happing in carb. or incoming fuel lines or pump. Pull carb and clean. look at frequintly asked questions to see how to check fuel pressure and vacuum

So it is running lean only when at low speed? does cleaning the carb mean rebuilding the carb? I don't feel confident enough to rebuild the carb on my nice new engine, but how much am I looking for a mechanic to fix this issue for me? Sorry for all the questions but I want this engine to be just right.

Thanks guys,

Tyler
