Can someone help this new-to-mercury owner? For some reason, I am getting a solid warning tone when the motor is digging for an extended period of time. Today, I was coming into Sebastian Inlet following a large wave into the dangerous inlet. The RPM's were around 2000 or so. All of a sudden I got a solid tone and the Motor went into protection mode (no power)

Once safely inside the inlet, I anchored and raised the motor. It was not overheating. I checked the oil tank, and it was nearly full. Even the reserve oil tank on the motor was full. I lowered the motor. It started and ran great the rest of the day.

This is the second time this has happened. Should I be worried, or should I take the motor to the dealer? You know how it is, it never happens when it is at the mechanic! I dont want to sound like an idiot.

Take it to dealer and have them check the codes, it will tell why horn went off. Got low on oil once and my horn went off solid, the motors will protect themselves by going into guardian mode. Sounds like the protection system came at a bad time for you entering inlet, I would invest in the Smartcraft gauges if you are motoring in some testy conditions.
