Hi,

Thanks in advance - I haven't been able to find any help with this, hoping maybe someone has some experience in this area.

I've got 26 ft. cables with some unavoidable bends on my '06 Merc Opti 150's. The installation does suck; between the way the helm is situated, the rigging tube, the engine bracket, the shallow rigging cavity, and the Merc tubes that restrict cable movement it's a worst case senario.. my old evinrudes worked great with stock cables and a loop but once they tucked them into the tubes the setup went to hell with my new Opti's..

I don't know if it makes a difference but I've also got the "stubby" top mount (twin) control box..

From day 1 with this setup the controls fealt stiff and had a tendency to bind up leaving the engines partially in or out of gear and/or the throttle not quite in the idle position. It was dealer installed and the dealer never really resolved the problem. A second dealer stated maybe some better cables but even the head (Merc) mechanic wasn't quite sure what I needed.

After about 600 hours they've gotten worse; it's not an adjustment issue rather there is more than 1/2 inch of error in the shift position depending on which way the engines are turned, whether I jiggle the controls around, and such..

The cables installed are standard Merc. I'm thinking I should upgrade to a Teleflex Extreme or something similar.. First question, is this the right choice?

Second question is (if this is the right choice) which "Extreme" cables are my best bet for the $$ ? I see there are three models in 26 ft. "Extreme" - one for abour $50 that is a generic setup (which might need adapaters).. a second for about $80 that fits "all Merc".. then a third for about $105 that is specifically for Merc's after 2003 with a "4000" series control box (how do I know if I've got this?)..

Looking at the Merc specific Extreme models the only difference seems to be an additional clamp on the older model Extreme cable...

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks again!

Jon
