I removed lower end to change the water pump impeller (2 week wait for dealer) and now I can't get the lower end to go all the way back up.
I can get the large splined shaft back into the engine but I think it is the small splined shaft for shifting that is not lining up.
Doesn't seem to matter what I try I just can't seem to get it to go up the last little bit.
There is a little slotted plastic piece that goes over the shaft to help it line up but just can't seem to get it to go.

Sure appreciate any help.

had mine off a few times starting to get good at it i make sure the prop spins free, the controls are in neutral put the lower gear case in place up as far as i can wrap a pull tie around the mid section and the gear case holding it up putting a little pressure on it then look in behind the swivel in the front of the mid section you can just see the gear shift rod to make sure it is lined up after it is turn your flywheel and it will start to lift in place you should be able to take more slack out of the pull tie, hope this works for you to.

Just tried with a piece of string to hold the shift rod up, but no luck. There is a plastic bushing that goes over the splinded rod that I assume is to help things line up but I just can't seem to get it. Doesn't help that I am working by myself, an extra pair of hands would help a ton!! Oh well I will keep trying and let you know how it goes.

Well I got it done. I kept on trying with the piece of string to hold the shift rod up and after several tries it slipped in.
I haven't tested everything yet but am glad the bottom end is on!
Thanks Meggy73123 for the idea, great site.

Thanks again guys!
