08 SeaRay 240 350magB3, 100 hrs
Boat sat in covered storage approx 8 months - batteries on trickle charger periodically.

Started/ran fine last time out but now continuous alarm tone & “eng low voltage” on smartcraft gauge. I had a shop look at it & was told bad fuel pumps (ColFuel3) caused eng circuit breaker to trip which caused “Eng low voltage” indication. I replaced fuel pumps & confirmed Eng circuit breaker is reset ( pushed on several times) to confirm not tripped but still same indications (alarm + “eng low voltage”). Both batteries have been checked good (12.8 & 13.2v) and condition is same with battery switch in 1,2 or both.

Is there something else i need to do to reset Eng CB?

Where can check Eng voltage with voltmeter?

Thanks

To start with the multimeter, check the orange wire off the back of the alternator, and also the two red wires off
/at the 50 amp circuit breaker with both engine running and off to note the difference if the alternator is charging… also check all ground wires that everything is clean and tight… 12v power wires too of course.😉

What does the voltage gauges say?

I’ll check alt org wire and at CB with key n but can’t start at the moment. It seems like start is disabled. Audio warning stays on & start button doesn’t engage starter. Smartcraft readout shows 12.8/13.1 for battery voltage

Was the no start condition present while the boat was at the boat service shop?

Is your boat digital throttle and shift that uses a push button vs a key switch?

If yes, then you probably have a clean power wire / harness that connects to the battery directly and has a fuse that might be causing troubles.

Are the battery cables tightened down with normal nuts and not wing nuts?.. make sure they’re all tight.

Yes - no start condition was present when dealer looked at it
Yes - digital control - key switch for ignition in “cabinet” - push button for start/kill on throttle handle

Will check for fuse from batteries to engine

Battery cables are tight attached with clamps/nuts vs wingnuts

Thanks for the help - will try to go out tomorrow & check voltage at various points & check fuses

Wow, honestly surprised they couldn’t get it started or figure out why.

Forgot to mention also check / swap relays plus try tapping on them lightly too to see if you get any engagement.

I was surprised also. I normally diagnose/fix things myself but I’m not very familiar with the DTS & smartcraft system so opted to let someone (I assume) more knowledgeable put eyes on it.

Where is the start relay located?

Did some checking this afternoon & learned a few things

1. I’m an idiot. I thought I was resetting the engine CB ( on top of engine) by pushing in red button but didn’t see actual gray reset lever. With CB actually reset, engine harness is getting power & cleared “Eng low voltage” warning
2. New fuel pumps installed but not pulling from tank/pushing to fuel rail based on fuel pressure test gauge & multiple ignition on cycles. I can hear at least 1 of the pumps running but can’t confirm both based on sound
Now wondering if backflow valve at tank is sticking closed so no fuel getting to pumps

Boat has been sitting a lot - 6 months or so & only 100 hrs over 17 years.

Is the backflow valve a common problem?

Thanks for any assistance
