So here goes. 08 FX SHO waverunner. Took out sunday ran great all day. Put on trailer, got home, and began to flush engine. While running the alarm sounded and i obseved a overheat warning emblem on the dash. Never had any problems with this ski and its kept in great condition. So took it out yesterday and within 5 minutes overheat alarm and warning emblem appear. engine reduced to half speed. shut engine off and restarted no alarm, full power for about 5 minutes. Alarm activated reduced power again. I went this morning and checked the intake screen in the pump. Clear of any debris. Removed the thermostat, Clear of any debris. Tested thermostat in pot of boiling water, opened and closed perfectly. Blew air threw the pissers on both sides, no obstructions. When i hooked up to the hose it has water flowing from all pissers and runs fine for about 5 minutes then alarm activates again. Never had a problem with this ski until now!! was told spark plugs can cause overheating??? never heard of this but this is my next step. Any ideas on this one. Love my waverunner but sad its not feeling well!!! LOL

Re: 08 fx sho overheat alarm

So I just blew all the pissers out and cranked it up on the hose. Ran for 5minutes then overheat alarm. That was within five minutes of engine being room temp. The water coming out of pissers is hose temp. Cool. I don't think the engine is overheating at all. If I hit stop button and instantly start back up there are no alarms ski runs fine for few minutes then repeat of alarm. Where would the temp sensor be located. Gonna change the plugs if that doesn't help I will replace temp sensor. Love a good challenge!!! N

Re: 08 fx sho overheat alarm

Not getting any responses on this site. Does anyone have any idea what it could be? I did some research and found the SHO has a sensor malfunction feature. If a sensor is faulty or is malfunctioning the check engine light with come on with audible alarm. I unplugged the sensor on the top of the engine last night and immediatley the check engine light came on. I plugged sensor back in and the light went off. So im thinking if the temp sensor was faulty then i would have a check engine light on. Also put laser temp gauge on the block and it was 102. Not overheating but still getting a temp alarm and power is reduced. What next???? Any help would be great. Getting frustrated!!! LOL
