My 1.6 dropped a cylinder this past week and I'm exploring ways to up my power. Is it possible to unbolt a sedrive from its bracket, remove the clamp bracket from say a 140 evinrude, and bolt it on the seadrive bracket? Or, put a 1.8 seadrive or 140 Ev. powerhead on my 1.6?
Thanks, Rob.

Re: 1.6 seadrive changeout.

I have been told that it can be done. I have a pair of 1987 1.6L SeaDrives and one of mine went south this summer. I was told to look for any of the bubble back V4s of that period. The V4s of that period went up to 140 hp as you know. One of my neighbors had a pair of V6 SeaDrives and he told me that the SeaDrive assembly was the same for the V4s and V6s so you may have some options.

I ended up buying a remanufactured 1.6L as I have a pair.

i would say yes.
i know you can take the seadrive and bolt it up to a regular bracket, as long as the donor motor has the same shaft length & bolt patterns are the same.
-
i took a 1996 225 bracket assembly & bolted it to my 1988 140.
