I have a 1997 Evinrude 150 Model Model L150GLEUR Serial # G04261427 20" shaft
Prop shaft seal leaking. Pulled the bearing carrier and then the TWO seals. Basically destroyed them in the process.
Shop manual and online parts lists show a single seal for this and all 150 models for a few years either way.
Lower unit is original to the motor since it has factory custom paint that matches the transom bracket.
Looks like 1999 they went to two seals and different bearing carrier.
My bearing carrier has two orings which matches the carrier in the 1997 parts list (which also shows one seal).
Looks like someone took it upon themselves to use two seals rather than the factory single seal.
My question - Use the single seal as called for in the manual or try the two seal approach using 1999 version.
Thanks

It's up to you, but I liked the double seal arrangement better. The singe (double lipped) seal did the same thing, but I always favored the two seals over one. It was a cost savings thing.

Agreed the metal seal housings are preferred.----Less chance to come out in my opinion.
