I have a 30# thrust Sears Gamefisher trolling motor model 217-590290 that all of a sudden has no speed control. I have only high speed in forward and reverse. Has anyone had this problem and can supply a fix? Is it safe to assume that the potentiometer switch control is bad or could the problem be some where else?

RJ

Howdy, Rstef.

I suspect your speed control uses a device called a silicon controlled rectifier. It works like a light dimmer in your house. If the SCR shorts you will have top speed and stop only.

I think that is what has happened. :(

JB,

Thanks for the come back on the gamefisher. The diagram for this unit shows a transistor which could be the item you refered to. The cost per the sears site is $111.00. Could be time for a new minkota!!!

RJ

If you are wanting to get rid of it, it will take it just like it sits, just e-mail me some pics and a price.
