I have a 1956 Johnson 10 hp. QD-17. Any Idea or what is involved to flush/clean intake/cooling system. Motor oveheats soon after start up then will not restart for about a half hour. I have changed coils, points, condensoers and plugs. drained fuel and cleaned bowl. I am running 24:1. Any Ideas is greatly appriciated!!! Thanks Mousty

Overheating is usually caused by the impeller vanes being worn out.Replace the impeller in the water pump and you will probably have solved your problem.
No need to check the thermostat. That engine does not have one
