10 HP throttle return question

I have a 59 10 HP Johnson, a QD-20 to be exact that I have pretty much overhauled and it runs really good.

Of course this has tiller steering and something I just noticed, do these small horsepower outboards have a throttle return when you let go of the thottle?

I don't see one on this engine, I guess I thought outboards had a throttle return or am I missing something?

Thanks, Larry

Re: 10 HP throttle return question

Hi itsarunner. I have a '61 QD-22, which is pretty similar to yours. My tiller drive does not have throttle return. If I twist it to a given point it stays there for better or worse. I suppose it does not have the return so that you can troll and fish at the same time, or so that your wrist doesn't get tired twisting and holding the throttle all day. I'm not sure if there's a way to modify it to have a throttle return, but if there is, this is the place to find out.

Nope. At least not if assembled correctly.

If you're looking for a way to kill the motor if you're pitched overboard, it's not hard to wire in a modern 2-wire tethered kill switch in place of the original pushbutton on the lower pan.

I need one on my 72 25hp.

Unfortunately, my motor doesn't even have a stop button though....

???? It should if it is manual start. If electric start it is supposed to have an igniton switch. Whatever. The kill wires are the two small black wires coming out from the armature plate under the flywheel. Kill switch connects to those two wires.
