I bought a 93 bluewater with a 4.3 merc. I have only had the boat one season and just pulled the manifolds and elbows to check for rust and holes. I only found light surface rust and no pitting. Boat has spent entire life as a trailored lake boat. Is this normal wear for manifolds and elbows 10+ yrs old or do you think these are not the original parts!!!

You didn't say how many hours were on the engines.
In my opinion, if only used a few months a year, in fresh water, it's entirely possible that they are original. Just remember that a visual inspection is only part of the story, as some of the worst areas can't be seen.

Check the manifolds, risers, and extensions if you have them, to be sure the area's shown in the picture is in good shape. If that surface is too thin, you will start getting water into your engine. (Not a good thing)

The problem is there is not an hour meter on the motor to really figure out how many hours are on it. The picture that Don sent is helpfull, I still have a 1/4 inch on all sides and seem to be in good shape. The response of you can't see all the insides is what makes me nervous! I have heard to many stories of water getting into the engine.

Since you have made the inspection Don laid out, and found them to be OK, then reassemble it and run it (without worry).

You were certainly correct to make this inspection, now go have fun!
