I got this boat from my brother in law. Here is the story. He skis barefoot so needs something pretty fast I guess. Anyway. He took the boat into the local boat motor repair place because it started missing at high speed. As far as I know that was the only problem.

The shop replaced just about everything electrical associated with the ignition. Heres what I know so far.

Engine will start but runs horrible no power and most of the time won't continue to idle for very long.

It has new plugs and leads. When I pulled the plugs this is what I found...#1 was wet and clean. #2 was dirty and fouled bad. 3 & 4 were wet and clean. I tried using a timing light but couldn't get a consistent spark/flash when I turned the motor over on most of the leads. Except for #1 which pretty much worked like it should.

with the plugs out I checked and marked TDC for each cylinder on the fly wheel so I could check the leads were going to the right cylinders. not much help though since they were firing.

Then I hooked up the spark plugs to the leads and cranked to see what kind of spark I was getting on each plug

#1 intermittent, but pretty good.

#2 steady but not very hot...probably the carbon

#3 nothing

#4 nothing

This is pretty much what I got from the timing light too.

So. I guess what I'm trying to track down is why I'm not getting a spark to 3&4 for sure then maybe why #2 is fouled so bad.

I'm going to town tomorrow to see what I need to buy to pull the fly wheel and check the distributor. I thought it was new and it looks new. clean and shiney:)

Any help would be a great help. Would like to take the grandson out on the lake before it freezes.
