I'm thinking about trying to save some money and do my own filter changes on my 06 175 hpdi, along with a water pump change.... I'v not read a whole lot about these procedures, am I about to tackle something that I dont need to try, any info would be greatly appreciated.

The absolute first thing to do is to get yourself a workshop manual for your motor.
Then read the relevant section at least twice.
Have the book in front of you as you commence the work, and you should have few problems.
In no time you will be changing water pumps, head gaskets, etc, etc.

Good luck.

when you hit the water pump section the book is rather vague on dissasembly and reassembly of the lock collar and retainer.
mess up on reassembly and you will either have an in gear idle knock or smoke your new water pump and housing.
many posts on correctly changing and reinstalling them on this forum.
to change the VST filter isnt hard take your time.
changing the medium pressure inline filter isnt hard just use patience to get the filter free of the hose,DO NOT use any thing OTHER than the original style clamp when reassembling.
a CV boot clamp installer works to install a new clamp.
to release the quick connect on the high pressure pump side of the medium presure filter simply push the line towards the filter, while holding the line towards the filter push that black plastic ring back into the line.
while holding the ring into the line slide the line assy off.
