100hp merc question

so I finally got the cover and tested the compression on the 1991 motor. No compression on the top cylinder. I would like to take the cylinder head cover off and take a look. I was told that there is no conventional head but it looks like one to me. spark plugs come out and I believe if I take out the "head bolts" then I should be able to see inside the cylinders and see whats up. Am I wrong?

Do you have a manual? If not send us the s/n of your engine and I'll see if i can get you one to do the job. As well we can give you the parts listing for the head gaskets and any other parts you might need.

I believe the /sn is 0D028202, not 0D0Z, a model 1100422Ld
