Hi fello boater well i got rid of the 75hp chrystler motor and bought an 105 hp motor i got the motor to turn over however the motor is not catching,of firing, i am not sure about the distributor, and if it is an point one or not and i attempted to do the power coil conversion, i switched the plugs and am not sure if i correctly wired the ballest, coil and resistor, is there a wiring digram that anyone has for this conversion and from the pictures is anyone able to tell if i have the points distribitor.i also changed the spark plug wires as well. i would greatly appreciate it if there is someone thats able to assist me.

Re: 105 chrysler problems

Yes, you have a points distributor. There is only one yellow/black trace wire on the side of it. To wire a coil, you must attach the blue wire to the "I" or "A" terminal on the switch. At the terminal board on the engine, run a blue wire to the + (pos) terminal of the coil. Run a wire from the negative terminal to the points terminal on the side of the distributor. Now: Anytime the ignition key is in start or run position the coil will have power to it. When the points close, current will flow and saturate the coi, building a strong magnetic field. When the points open the field will collapse, generating a high voltage pulse to the distributor where it is sent to the correct plug. Set points to .010 open. Timing is 32 degrees BTDC at WOT. The ballast resistor is wired in series with the positive coil wire and you should install a capacitor to prevent point arcing and premature wear.

Re: 105 chrysler problems

I live in Louisburg just outside of Raliegh. I drive to Raleigh almost everyday. I also have two 105 chryslers for parts if you need anything. I have also done the conversion on one of them per Frank's instruction a while back. It worked great till my head gasket went out. You are more than welcomed to come out and check it out if you have the time. Feel free to email me at wgreer4@nc.rr.com. for local assistance.
