hi all lots of info here. i hope you can help. i have an 11' 7" modified (shallow?) v hull bench seat boat. it has a metal plate on transom with # 000504 stamped on it. that's all i can find. i thought it may be starcraft sealite 12 but the beam is 48".- 10" shy. i would like to know what model this is and hp rating. i got a 1970 9.5 evinrude ss sporttwin. if you can't tell me what boat i have i still need to know if this 9.5 (about 70lbs what i'm told) will be ok & what kind of performance to expect. :D THANKS A BUNCH!

Hiya,

I'm afraid I can't give you any info on your boat, but I will say that 9.5 or 9.9 hp motors on ~12' aluminum boat is a pretty classic combo (like toast and jam)... they just seem to go well together. So, you're probably good. Your boat is a flat bottom boat isn't it (at the transom)?

If your boat is really shallow/flimsy, then 9.5 might feel like too much. I have a couple of OLD 12' "car topper" types and for them, 6 hp is about the right match... but these are really shallow/narrow boats (more like if you cut the last 4' off a 16' canoe).

If your solo, you might want to have a bit of weight up front to make it ride better.. move gas as far forward as possible... or this is where having a 65 lb lab comes in handy. But then again, she usually wants to sit in my lap.

Good luck!

Brent

thanks brent! it is flat @ transom it only has v a couple ft from bow then goes flat. i always make shure to bring my 68lb dog @ make him stay in the front. i will try to sit the tank in the middle somewhere. i like this boat because i'm not that strong & i can trailer it pretty easy myself. it's true, men are stronger than women- only physically! it's definately not a "canoe" i was just worried that the beam is only 48" kinda narrow. but i think i'll be ok.
