Hi,

Just took my 115hp evinrude V4 1994 for a run after fitting a Temp Guage to each block.

First for the good part, both Temp Guages read the same temp...that's good. :D

But, they only read 112F... from what I've read on this forum they should be a lot hotter...

I bought this boat 2nd hand, could this mean the T'Stats could have been removed?

Looking for help

Thanks

Nige

To confirm the temp you need to get some temperature sticks or use one of the "guns" as the temp might be OK & your guages might be reading a bit low. Those motors don't like to run cold - - or real hot for that matter.

However I assume that is a salt water motor and since it it new to you I suggest that you do the t-stats & pressure releif valves, water pump, plugs, change gear oil, deflectors in the block and new filter on the fuel filter/water seperator. If you don't have a manual check here:

http://www.theoutboardwizard.bizhosting.com/parts_service_and_owners_manuals.html

I was told that when the motor is operated a higher RPM the poppett valves open and by pass the thermostats and the motor temp will be about 20 to 25 degrees above the water temperature.

I had a 50 hp evinrude and drilled the head and installed an electronic temperature gauge. In cold water at higher speed the gauge would barely show anything. In warmer water It would show a little more. When at an idle or running a slow speeds the temp would come to about 140
