i have a 115 hp #283xxx,i need a distrbutor housing with the 3 wires .got one???? let me know asap.i got a guy that has a 135 hp dist housing with the 3 wires.They are diffrent .his cap screws on .mine has a metal band and screw and nut ,willl this work ????or how can i check it to see . the stator and coil pack are the same as mine.....thanks heres a pic of the 135 hp part.his motor was a 73 135 hp

The part picture you posted is off a 1100 or 1250 hp engine. It will work but you need the entire distributer assy and set it up to 1250 specs. To test it just hook it up to your switchbox,turn key on and spin shaft. If the coil fires its good....

THANK for the replt fatz.so i need all the way to the belt.that scares me now he said its off a 1350 .mine is 1150 115 hp .what do you think a fair price is? or should i hold out and try to find the same as mine is ?:confused:(is there alot of change or setup ?) thanks

i have found a 4 cyl distrubtor all together like you said it looks the same all i would have to do is switch the disk out right and the cap.its a 69 or 70s 80 hp 800.. i have the 6 cyl .....this sound like it might work ????

No, the 4 cylinder has two sets of four "fingers" that triggers the high and low coils. I'm sure I'm not explaining it 100% correct, but I know it won't work. Not only does the distributor (ignition driver) direct the spark to the cylinders, but it powers and "tells" the coil when to fire.

There is no difference between a 4 & 6 cylinder distributer other than the disk and cap, the only thing you have to watch is some of the 80/85hp's came with a "U"(horseshoe) trigger pick up and you dont want that style....

Thats only on the 4 cylinder 50hp models.....

well this u shape ?????got a pic of it .the only thing i see in the picture is the cap ring would only fit that cap only because a rise in the cap that the ring matches. heres the pic, mine has a smooth clamp no indents or whatever it is.know what im talking about ?u got me scared about the u shape thing now .but all the numbers matched :confused:

You will need to remove cap to see if it has "U" shaped trigger.....

oh boy .first why dont i want that kind?and the replacement for both are the same part number.i must have the u shaped on my motor too ?

The horseshoe trigger came on 1969-72 engines , serial number ranges 3051041-3052380 and 3144219-3192962. It came with a small coil and and trigger wires where blue ,white and black. The white wire fed directly into trigger and has no hook up to switchbox. There where 2 switchboxes the 393- 3736 and the 337-4411 as the standard trigger uses the 332-2986 box. Their are still a few in my area as I still work on them for the customers, a lot of tech's and others have never seen one of these.Below is wiring diagram.

distrubutor from Mercury 80 hp outboard serial # 2760305 I dont know what year this is. Older motor. Possible late 60s early 70s.
4 cylinder, black motor, silver block, distributor ignition. If your motor is all 4 of these the part probably fits"

I would check it out real good as it elooks to have broken off block rather than un- bolted

still waiting on the distrubtor ,sooooo curious that its not like you said above.
i do know i need a distrubtor .i checked the box and coil and i get spark very blue spark.how could a distrubtor brake off ?

Several ways: used bracket to lift motor, motor fell over hitting bracket in other words the engine fell over or was dropped...

Pull cap and inspect, hook the 3 trigger wires up ,install a spark tester in coil, trn key on and spin rotor shaft and coil should fire...

i got the new distrubtor today .looked it over.when testing it does it matter if the 4 disk is hooked up to my switchbox for the 6 hole disk ,just checking before i hook it up and test it.i guess it easy to smack the aluminum on the case because thats what they did took something pointy and on two spot they wacked it off anyways it is a 4 cycl and i need to change the disk.and need to tear my motor apart , can anyone direct me thanks...
