I have a 2004 115 Mercury 115 and it has developed a very frustrating problem. I can run the engine hard out to a fishing location and troll for as long as I want but when I try and power back up the engine bogs down and will only idle. After raising it up removing the cowl finding nothing wrong I can lower it, it starts right up and runs fine. This can happen four or five times a day. I have looked at everything and read the manual. It sounds like a sensor is shutting off two of the cylinders but I cannot find why.

Re: 115 EFI Problems

I am by no means an expert on the newer mercs, my genre is the inline 6 old school stuff. however, it sounds like tilting it up clears the problem. It could be heat related from extended trolling. Possibly a vapor lock. Removing the cover may dump the heat and tilting it up might be "burping" the vapor lock.

Make sure your cooling system is up to snuff.

Check the harness on front of ECU on engine as these can work loose. Also disconnect the temp sensor as if bad it will reduce rpm as will overrev..
