At the beginging of the 07 boating season (april or may) i bought a 115 hp yamaha 115 eltj out of the local paper here. After riging the motor and hanging it on the boat and everything it started up pretty easily the first time i tried it. I have been using the motor all season and so far its been a great motor to me. Now the previous owner did not use the motor at all for about 3-4 years before i bought it. It was laying on its back (prop down) on a pallet in a heated shop. I have been premixing the gas this season using about half the oil thats recomended for 50:1 because i was not sure that the precision blend system was working. I realize that the motor and carbs were designed to use straight gas. Im pretty sure now that the precision blend system is working ok now as the oil is being used out of the in cowling tank and the remote tank is filling the smaller tank every once and a whyle. My question is should i get a carb rebuild kit as a prevenitive thing or should i just winterize it like normal and look at it like a "if it aint broke dont fix it" thing. Its running ok now but i want to keep it running great for next spring. Or should i just run some kind of cleaning additive for the rest of this season and hope that cleans it all out? Also where would i find a rebuild kit for the carbs and how hard is it to do the rebuild on these carbs? Thanks for all the help guys!!

Re: 115 eltj Carb rebuild???

now would be an excellent time to catch up on the maint, do the carbs, fuel pump,T-stats, pressure relief valve grommet and water pump.
pay close attention to the rubber dam under the pump wear plate and clean out all fuel lines.very good engines, most die due to maint,or lack of.
