I would think it should. How many rpm's are you getting?

Boat speedo's are notoriously inaccurate.

Re: 115 hp evinrude

I have an older Evinrude 115. It starts great, and runs like a bat out of hell. The only problem is that when the fuel tank is less than 2/3 full the engine will stop just as if you ran out of gas. Level the tank, or fill it back up and it runs great until the next time the tank is lower than 2/3. Checked hoses, fitting vents and the fule inltake hose and all seem perfect. What can it be?

Do you have a tach?

It depends on what kind of tach you are using. There will be a grey tach-signal wire tucked into your controller that permanent marine tachs will hook up to. Follow their instructions on how to do that. If you have a diagnostic tach, you would just clamp the pickup wire on a spark-plug wire (and the +/- on the battery if need be).

You didn't give a year for your motor, is it a 76 as well?

What prop do you run. I have a 13 dia 19 pitch prop on my 115 1979 mounted to a 16 ft whaler and it goes 32 at 5100 rpm.
