115 hp mercury question

when did they start building the 4 cylinder 115 mercurys?<br /><br />i might trade it with a evinrude v4.<br /><br />is this merc a crossflow or looper.<br /><br />thanks

They started out with 100s in 1988 and 89 was the first for the 115. By the looks of the piston on my partl catalog, it's loop charged. Do a search if you're not familiar with it. They have an interesting quirk that comes up all the time.

Hey Willy, Must have been some overlap as I had a '89 tower of power. It was direct charged. Difference? Dunno. As I recall the pistons still had a crescent dome and 3 rings that the replacement loopers didn't have. Both get/got really super mpg or hourspergallon as compared to my old cross flow OMC's.<br /><br />What's the "quirk that comes up all the time"?<br /><br />Thanks,<br /><br />Mark
