115 Hp water tube

Friend has a 115 Hp Merc 1979 outbard two stroke. s/n 5315990.... His neighbor helped him replace the impeller and housing... first time out it overheated and shut down... I helped pull the lower unit and discovered the pump housing is broken where the water tube goes into, and the tube is bent into an oval shape and damaged... what is the trick for getting the tube out so it can be straigtened or replaced... can't get the intermediate housing off. or does the tube just pull out like in my little 9.9 yamaha....
i have done a lot of impellers but for some reason, can't get the tube out... is there a way to make the end of the tube round again without pulling it out...?
any help?

It's just stuck in the top grommet try needle nose pliers and twisting a little

tried that... does it just pull out as in my little 9.9 or is ther a bolt on clamp... or some other trick?

When I changed the water pump the first time on my 1972 model 115 I saw that the previous owner had taken a thin wall piece of PVC and slid it over the lower end of the water tube. This tube helped to guide the water tube into the top of the water pump because it was sized just right, in other words the PVC slid over the water tube but it was thin enough that it slid inside the top opening of the water pump.

I do not know for a fact the size, but I believe it may be 3/4" thin wall PVC pipe. MAKE SURE IT IS THIN, MAYBE 1/16" THICK.

It made alignment of the water tube very easy, especially if you are doing the job by yourseld.

that piece of tube comes with a new water pump kit and is for that exact purpose...
We were ablt to straighten the end of the tube and goet it all back together... new plugs, fresh gas its all happy now...
