Hello:
Still have a problem with my 1983 115 Johnson V4(115TLCT). Today we tested all the plug wires and found that the 2 top cylinders had not electric current going through. :( The boat runs, but the RPM are @ 2200( not speed). I using a NGK plugs BR9HS/10, but today I was told by a marine dealer that I should use Champion plugs. The boat was riding fine until 4 months ago when I changed the plugs and desired to change the wires, too. If the 2 top cylinders are not working can't the powerpack or CDI cause this kind of problems. I mention on this board before that one of the coils tested ok and the compresions of the top cylinders was between 120 and 125. Also, I clean Carbs, changed the fuel filter and replace the complete fuel line. Appreciated, any comments.
RiverMan

be sure the coils have a good ground. Their mounting bolts supply the ground. Your engine has 2 separate ignitions systems. One for the starboard side, one for the port side. If the top 2 cylinders are dead as you say, it could be the trigger coil under the flywheel. Check this website for info on how to troubleshoot it further.
click me

Riverman...if you replaced the wires try checking with an ohm meter if the wires are assembled correctly...sometimes those little wire connectors can get loose...I think your model has 2 powerpacks...one for port and one for stbd bank...just a Thought

Howdy, Riverman.

What your two top cylinders have in common are the top carb and stator. They use different powerpaks.

Is it possible that you are having a carb problem?

:)

Hello Riverman,
Your engine came out with Champion spark plugs,I would definitely put them back in. I have experanced problems with NGK plugs in OMC outboards. I doubt that is the cause of the problem that you are experancing now, follow the above posts also.
