115 johnson won't plane off, skips

I have a 115 johnson ocean pro that was purschased new in 1998, I have never had any trouble untill today. When you try to get on plane it misses and skips, cranks up and idles great, at low speed it runs fine. Also the tach quit working. Plugs are new, no water in fuel. It just runs terrible when you power up, could the problem with the tach be related to the running ? Please help Thanks !!!

tach is usually bad connection, bad rectifier, bad stator. check your compression and spark. what do your spark plugs look like?

plugs look good, they are Champions, I prefer NKG's so I am going to change them this weekend, motor overall has only around 200 hours on it

Hate to bring bad news but my '91 Johnson115 did the same thing and I just found out it blew a ring, Check the compression for sure...your spark plugs should tell a story too when you change them, you know if they are wet and gunked up etc etc. good luck
