I just got a 115 merc and it has been in the shop it got new plugs, good compression rebuilt carbs, and a clean bill of health, but it wont go above 2000 RPM. on a 26 foot pantoon it will only do about 15.

Re: 115 merc no power

dont know the weight of the boat the prop pitch is a power prop. the motor just wont rev up. I was told something about a module on the front of the motor that needed to be disconnected. it has something to do with idle?

Take it back to the shop that repaired it!

They should have checked that engine over before giving it back to you!

19pitch on a pontoon sure sounds big to me. You might check that.

Re: 115 merc no power

Sounds like more than a prop. Raising from 2000 to the recommended 4750-5250 rpm can't be done by changing pitch although I agree with 19" being overkill in this case.

It needs proper diagnosing which, btw, a manual is a must to do (link on bottom of this site).

How does it rev en neutral? Not neutral+wot, but will it rev higher than say 4000?

Re: 115 merc no power

OK...I changed to a 15 prop and it did much better, shop rec. I go to a 13, they said that the prop was way too big. The 15 has smaller blades and the boat did real good for the 20 min it took for the impeller to go out. Has any one else ever paddeled a 26 foot pantoon? So remember. even if you just go to check it out, take the trolling motor. Thanks for the help.Dave
