i have a 1978 modle merc that starts ok runs ok at low r.p.m.'s but when you go to full throttle it will get up on plane and then stall off and die. If you squeeze the ball on the fuel line the motor will pick up again, this will continue as long as you keep squeezing the ball but don't flood the motor. Is the fuel pump weak?

Welcome to iboats.com.
Yes, there is a blockage in the fuel line, filter, or the fuel pump is failing or poor compression, because the fuel pump uses engine compression to operate it (poor compression, poor pumping).
If you squeeze the primer and flood it, you have a stuck float needle in one of the carbs (the one expelling fuel when the primer is squeezed).

Re: 1150 merc

thanks for the input. I'm going to try borrowing a fuel tank and fuel line to see if the problem is in the motor. wish me luck.
