Hey all from over the ocean in Australia!

I have recently bought a used 16 foot runabout with a 1974 mercury 1150 blueband. Recently i have rebuilt the transom of the boat so I naturally had to remove the motor to do so.

When it came time to reinstall the motor, i made the silly mistake of over-tightening 1 of the four hydraulic lines on the trim pump. The ended up stripping the thread.

So now i am left with a trim pump with an internal stripped thread and need to derive a solution. Apparently the threads are an uncommon mercury one so i doubt a helicoil is an option. Also I doubt finding a used one is much of a possibility and i doubt new replacement parts are available. does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks

The bottom valve body on the pump is removable, a new one is very expencive if available at all but here in the states there are alot of dead pumps with the bodys on them laying around, so you may be able to find a used one

Re: 1150 trim pump thread

Spargs, I would think that the trim hose fitting is 1/8" or 1/4" NPT (Normal Pipe Thread). If so, you should be able to find a brass reducer at a plumbing store. The reducer (sometimes called a flush bushing)will reduce a larger size tapped hole down to the hose fitting side. Then you need to drill and tap the control valve to the larger size of the reducer.
