I just cleaned and rebuilt carbs due to slow idle and stalling after winter storage. After rebuild i'm getting neutral idle at about 1100-1200 rpm's. This seems too much, but i don't have the manual to know for sure. Anyone know what it should be at and where to start on the idle if it is indeed too fast.

Thanks,
Chase

Re: 115hp 1995 Johnson idle too fast

Is that the idle speed in the water or out of the water on muffs? Reason I ask is my 70hp idles about 1000 rpm to 1100 rpm on the muffs and then about 800rpm when it's in the water...

So if your getting your high idle speed out of the water it might be just fine when it's in the water and nothing is wrong at all....

HTH...

That idle speed is out of the water with the muffs on. I haven't tried it in the lake yet. It sounds a heckuva lot better than it did before the carb cleaning. Amazing what a little gunk in the needle and jet of one carb can do!
