115hp mercury other problems

Engine tilt/trim work. iginition key wont start the engine but if i connect the red and black with a screw driver it turns over? Only thing i have disconnected since last time i had it working was the gas tank which had some wiring hooked to it for the sending unit? Could this really make the key not start the motor?

Have you looked for a fuse that may be blown ?

Good point, no i have not checked for a fuse box yet. I will check and get bak with u.

Bondo: Red n black wires at terminal on engine block, you connect them and bam it starts cranking. go back to the key and turn it, nothing happens.
