Re: 115hp six mercury airfilter question
These motors are very reliable, and have lots of low end grunt
If you take car of it, you will give it to your grandkids.

But

There is a few things you should know about them to keep them running.

1. they hate bad fuel. Use FRESH premium BRAND NAME fuel only. If you dont your motor will suffer from mechanical failure
fast. Believe me I know from experience.

2. Keep the fuel pump in top shape, this will keep the pistons from staving for fuel and burning the top of the pistons. It only takes a few seconds for it to happen, but you can prevent it for about 10 bucks and 10 minutes work.

3. Consider jetting the top Carburetor. The top piston is a little bit vulnerable to running lean. If you jet it (parts are cheap and available at your Merc dealer)

4. Change your plugs annually. Preferably at the beginning of the year. Its just one of those things.

5. Run a small amount of marine two stroke decarbonizer in the tank every once in a while, just to keep the inside of the motor happy. NEVER USE AUTOMOTIVE CLEANERS OF ANY TYPE.

6. If you are premixing your gas/oil mix, do not add extra oil for good measure, it will gum up the motor. 50-1 mix is good for most applications, 45-1 is as oily as you want to get it

Also just bear in mind these motors tend to be a little Thirsty, but not much more than other Outboards of similar years/power.

If you do a little research youll find these motor where called the tower of power and for good reason.

Hope this helps
