I have an early 70's 12.9. Problem is when idleing it will hiccup and quit. I have adjusted the carb til no end. Doesn't seem to help any. I have got a shock from the motor if I am grounded between the boat and motor. It has points and condensor type ignition. Could it be a bad coil or condensor. Other than that it seeems to run good, just a little light on power for my 14 ft boat.

yes, and start it up at night and a new moon, and look for sparks. It will be very visable.<br />Any light made by the motor is is leaking ignition.

Re: 12.9 Chrysler running problem

bills: I had this same problem, the previous owner had the motor tuned-up at a local fixit shop and they obviously did not have the shop manual. They had the points set with less than a 0.015" gap, I bought the manual and found out that they are suppose to be gapped at 0.020", they also say in the manual that if your gap is off more than 0.0015" it will affect the way the motor runs. I would suggest that you get the Cylmer Shop Manual for your motor. Good Luck Colin
