12 pin controls to 8 pin engine harness question

I have a set of controls from a late 70's V6 with a 12 pin harness. My engine is a mid 80's V6 with an 8 pin connector. Is there an easy way to adapt the two or do I need to just get another control box? Thanks, Scott.

If it is the same manufacturer check with a dealer, perhaps they have a cable for that.

IF you know the wiring schematic for both units, you can make a little adapter harness to go between the two. Then you don't have to do anything but connect them up... Buy the mating connectors for both ends and wire accordingly and there will be no need to swap anything... JMHO!

Gee, Std Ignition wires are for choke, acc power, B+, ground, ign killer, starter solenoid and tach signal. The 8th wire is likely overheat. Two power trim wires (blue/white, green/white), brings the total to 10 wires. What is the function of the other two wires?

Reverse lock solenoid and trim limit/sender. If you try to splice this in you will need to bypass microswitches in control box and rewire the trim wiring to bypass the trailer button. You will need to also wire the trim button to a hot as they don't work unless key is on.IMO better to get a newer box as it will be all splices unlees you can come up with the engine side of the adapter...
