Hello all, I'd like to introduce you to my 1990 Sea Ray - I like to call this my aquatic mistake. It'll be the first boat that I rebuild, and actually the first boat of mine that I personally have in the water!

I went to look at this boat when it was in the water 2 years ago - the owner wanted more than I wanted to spend. I found out that he still had the boat but no longer used it, and I shot him an offer in the dark and asked if I could look at it. Ended up finding out that the motor was not going to run, had some water inside over the winter. Here's a couple pics of the important parts!

I found a newer used engine for cheap, knowing I would need a block. I tore it down and brought it to the machine shop, and started shopping for all of the little supporting components.

Meanwhile I started into the boat engine, got that torn down to a bare block and out of the boat.

I now have the engine back from the machinist, and have began assembly. The carb showed up, and the intake is on the way, but I still need to find a camshaft.

I did not take pictures during the piston process but did take some videos... Here's the finished product anyhow.

It looks like some nice work. Don't want to throw you off, but noticed the crank was already installed when received from machine shop. Do you know what the bearing clearances were?

Wonder if they were within spec? Did the rod bearings clearances check out?

Sure, I appreciate the attention! The caps were installed, the crank was align bored and everything was measured with micrometer/caliper. I didn't ask what the numbers were, I trust the shop I use! I did most of the assembly myself - The heads I left for them and the wrist pins.

Been super busy, slammed at work which is great. Been putting together the engine in my spare time, which is limited. Boat ran today - needs some fine tuning but it ran for break in. Temps were good, oil pressure was great, engine sounded good. Trim pump was filled with chocolate milk, flushed that out a few times but it's running slow up, sounds like it's bypassing the whole time. took 72 seconds for full lift after all the flushing. The U joints might be bad, have a grind noise at certain steering angles... (angry face) but what did I expect? The engine was the only part neglected? HAHA.

Should probably take the trim cylinders apart they are probably binding.

I suspect you didnt take the drive out to swap motors

had you done so, you would have aligned the motor and inspected the u-joints, gimbal bearing and bellows
