12-volt-battery-clip-on-accessory-socket-power-outlet.jpg
Over the years I have tried several styles of 12 V outlets and none of them have worked for me. I need a 12 V outlet with battery clips for a 12V, 100 watt spotlight. I have tried several outlets from Wal-Mart and all have burned up. The 12 V outlet works fine for a few minutes but loses continuity and has to be jiggled and shaken to work. After a few times of doing this the metal or something other than the fuse burns out and the circuit is dead. The heavy duty 12 V outlet from AutoZone is strong, solid plastic but the plugs pops out continuously. Every time I move the light the plug pops out. I'd rather not cut the plug on the spotlight because I want to use it in the truck as well. Any ideas?
Thanks

IMHO, You are asking allot out of one of these sockets by using a 100 Watt bulb on them. If my math is right, that's over 8 amps, which is probably more then what those sockets are designed to handle with continuous use.

If it were mine, I would cut the cords and solder in these;

They are called power pole connectors. I have used them in the past for R/C cars that pull amps that would make your 100 watt light blush. If you solder a pair to the cord to the light, the male socket to the light, and the clips that go to the battery (forget the female socket), you would be able to use the light in your truck by re-attaching the male plug, then also be able to directly connect the light to the battery clips for long term use. You can buy them here;

11 bucks for a 10 pack.

Those cheapo accessory outlets are rated for 10 amps at best, so I think you need to find something more heavy duty. Maybe you could rig up some Velcro or something to keep the plug from popping out of the AZ unit.
