Make sure you a heavy gauge wire. I've fseen ires start with small gauge wires.

assuming you have the 19'proline CC in your profile, I would get a marine stainless plug from your local boating store. I like the style that you drill a hole (usually 1 1/8") into your console and it mounts flush with a rubber cover that plugs into socket when not in use to protect from spray. Use 12 ga marine wiring and put an in-line fuse if not attaching to a fused toggle switch. I always coat connections with liquid electrical tape for good measure. Here is example of what I am referring to. I think it's listed at $8.99.
