Again I am new to the chryslers I need to figure out how to set the timing on these motors. I know everyone is going to say get the manual but that is not a option as I live in the very north of canada and summer will be gone by the time I get the book It runs fine but eats fuel like a horse 2 five gallon tanks in about 3hrs of tubing and sking It doesnt seem to have the same power that my merc had and it was a 80hp on the same boat so I think it needs to be timed Has new plugs compression is good rebuilt carbs that dont leak starts first time even when hot so if someone can tell me the procedure for timing these beasts it would be greatly appreciated.

Re: 120 chrysler timing question

You can try checking the timing to be sure it is at 32 degrees before top dead center at wide open throttle. If you find you must re-time it, search for past threads. Several times in the past I have posted detailed instructions for synchronizing and timing Chrysler engines.

If you are skiing and tubing at or near WOT, three hours on 10 gallons (Imp?)is not too bad. At cruise or partial power settings I would expect about 1 1/2 to 2 hours from a six US gallon tank.

And as for power--the Chrysler is probably about 20 horsepower short of 120 since it was rated at the crankshaft. And with the added weight over the Merc 80 which was rated 80 at the prop and actually put out more, --that's all you are going to get. Sorry!
