I have went through 3 starters since mid last summer when I repaired a short int he trim unit in the throttle! The first froze with the engaging cog stuck in contact with the fly wheel! The second turned the boat over twice befor failing in the down position and still has a little movement. The third froze in the down position after running the boat 4 time for apx 2-5 min per run! I plan on checking the throttle for any possible short! The battery has been tested at 1000 CCAmps and is fully charged prior to testing. All contact from the battery to the starter have been cleaned and tightened, plus new battery terminals have been installed (replaced wing nut connection with larger top terminal connections). Can the starter solenoid have intermittent problems? The Solenoid tested 12 V across terminals. Any other suggestions? Can the starters be rebuilt?

What brand starter did you use? The reason I ask is that there are a lot of off shore companies making some really cheap, poor quality starters these days. Starters can be re-built but depending on what is bad, it may be better to just get a replacement. If the inside is not all rusted and the armature is good, then replacing the brushes and a few other odds and ends is not very expensive.

Year? Serial#?
Location,Profile?
Sometimes????
Poor compression can cause a starter to act badly.
Do a compression test and post the results.
Pics of the flywheel teeth?
Usually the solenoid works or not.J
