Re: 120 force replacement ?

Your best bet is to start anew with an outboard company that wasn't bought out and discontinued IE Chrysler- then - Force - then Mercury Force - then - game over. Its hard to find parts for them anyway. Go buy a Yamaha or an Evinrude E-tech. If that isn't in your price range then go for a used 120 johnson 4 cylinder, they are pretty reliable and parts are everywhere.

Yes you can replace it with another power head providing the splines in the replacement crankshaft that connect to the drive shaft match up your original. The L-Drives sometimes came with 13 spline crankshafts. Most regular outboards cranks have 15 splines.

If you replace it with another Force power head, no you will not have to change the controls. If you go to a different manufacturer, then you probably will have to change the controls.

go to boats.net. I have bought parts for my 1996 120hp force through them. I believe you can get rebuilt powerheads and parts from them.

Ebay has complete powerheads for sale on it. You may be looking at some serious moolah! I bought a Cuddy Cabin, a 1992 Maxum 2100LDC with the same engine in above average shape for $2950 last fall. If you really need a powerhead......I'm always open to offers! This powerhead comes with a boat and a trailer! Keep the Bayliner for a parts boat!
