120 hp evinrude thermostat

Hello i have a 1990 120 evinrude v4 it has not been running for about 2 years i started it up and noticed one side of the cyl were hot (so cyl 1-2 )and the there side was not i took out the thermostats and could blow through one but not the other i brought them home and put them in hot water and can blow through them both when hot they cool down about an hour later and i can still blow through them are they no good or am i doing somthing wrong thanks will add a pic so you can see what type of thermostat they are IMAG0046.jpgIMAG0046.jpg

I second that,they should both be closed when cooled,if it sticks open the heat has no time to be absorbed by the coolant before exiting.

Did you give it a water pump service ???

Even new ones you can slightly blow thru as it has a small relief....

Hello i have not done anything with the water pump yet just waiting on the parts and will be getting new thermostats to one of them i can get a little air past (after dropping it ) but the other one hot or cold seems to be open i just did not know if it had to do with it being a looper thanks for the replys

Hope you have an impeller on order.

Do one thing at a time. Replace the thermos first and see what happens. After that you can replace the water pump for reg maint.

Agree as long as the pump is actually functioning OK at this point.
