hi, newbi here with a force question. I am rebuilding a 1991 120 hp force. just got the block from the machine shop was looking to order some parts and found one part i needed is obsolete. ths part is a snap ring in the crankshaft beside each main bearing. does any one know where i could obtain three of these or do i need them? any help would be appreciated. thanks

Re: 120 hp force help

Hmmm! merc is making it hard on us.There are two rings at the bearings: One is a spring steel snap ring that holds together the bearing outer race and you can get by without this as the block will hold them when it is assembled. The other is a ring like a small piston ring and rides in a groove on the crankshaft just above the bearing. It is a crankcase seal and the engine will run, but run poorly without it as compared to with it. They don't usually wear and can be re-used so don't snap one when you reinstall them.

I generally buy a lot of junk engines and may have a couple laying around so if you absolutely need one or two send me a private message. Those are something I would need to look through a lot of junk to find so you would need to wait a bit.
