Here is a tricky one, I purchased a 1996 120hp with a bad powerhead so I could put the lower unit on my 120hp but it is not made the same, my 120 is not as beafy as the one I purchased so I think mine might be a 1995, I cannot make out the serial #, Just how diffrent are the powerheads from one year to the next?. I would like to swap the powerheads.

Re: 120 hp Force

1995 was the first year for the Mercury-style gearcase, so yours is 1994 or earlier. Unfortunately they changed the crankshaft splines in the Force 120 to Merc splines about then. I also compared cylinder block base gaskets from a 1994 and 1996 and they look very different. I'm afraid you're stuck.

Mercury started putting Force powerheads on Mercury legs in 1995. That was to streamline production. They no longer had to make so many separate parts. The mating was a good one. If choices are even, I'd put my money into the 96.

Re: 120 hp Force

I'm sorry about your engine problems but I need your old 1995 Force power head parts.

I need:
2 each connecting rods.
2 each -pistons (std.)
3 each cranshft seals (looks like small piston ring)

or your old power head if some of these parts are serviceable.

I can find after market pistons ,electrical ,etc. but I can't find a connecting rod.

let me know your price.

Mercury sells them but they're a little (GULP) expensive.

Best to buy a scrap motor or two for parts if you plan on keeping it very long..
