SO here it goes not new to boating just new to ownership of a 1969 mark twain I know all about the history of the maker and the forum for these boats I have a stupid question that I need all the ears possible to help me... It has a model 1 out-drive on it and came with a 120 hp motor the previous owner says the motor was swapped he thought the 140. Interesting part is the valve cover has no identifiable marks and I have literally no idea what motor is in there.

I know the serial numbers don't match on block of motor and hull tag so motor is not original that I know and I have a full garage stall of spare engines parts from bell housing to engine couples to manifolds and carbs.

I have three carbs and three manifolds two manifolds are the same and have 6 bolts to hold it on, two bolts being on the outside edges of the flange and one has 4 bolt holes none on the very outside of the flanges and is cast iron the others are aluminum. They are all 2 jet Rochesters with auto choke.

That being said I know if I take the head off I'll know right away but is there a way using serial numbers to identify motor and head I have engine number and head as well I think.

I don't want to just go off looks because supposedly the 120 exhaust would need to be put on the 140 to make it work with the out-drive is that correct?

Re: 120 or 140

Ayuh,... Welcome Aboard,... The 120 hp, 153 cid, 2.5l motor, 'n the 3.0l, 181cid, 140 hp motor are virtually identical, in outside dimensions, 'n bolt ons,..

The 3.0l has a harmonic balancer on the front of the crank, the 2.5l, just a pulley....

The exhaust are interchangeable, up to the early '80s,...
