Hi,
Since I am new to boating. I was just wondering if there are any issues with switching from a 120hp to a 140 hp mercruiser??? Do you have to change any of the outdrive componants??? How much can I expect this to increase my speed??? The boat is rated for 140hp max.

Should be an easy straight-forward swap. Figure on gaining 1 MPH for every 10 HP increase. How much money and effort is 2 MPH worth to you?

A lot of work for not much difference. I just upgraded from 151hp to 225hp and gained 9mph from 33mph to 42mph. You need quite a bit of hp to make a difference. If the motor is in a fiberglass boat I'm guessing you might gain anywhere from 2 to 4 mph, but not much. Unless your motor is blown I wouldn't do it. If you want more speed and power, your going to have to go to a v6 or v8, which means different boat. Most people agree, if you want a faster boat you need to buy one.
