Howdy All,

Quick question that I can’t find an answer for. Trying to remove the driveshaft from a friend’s 120hp Force outboard. I believe he said the year is a 1993. Everything seems straight forward, but we’re unsure how to remove a part that holds the prop driveshaft in. It appears to thread out, but after searching the web...I’m not so sure that it doesn’t need to be pulled out. I’ll attach a pic for reference. Any help is appreciated!!

The threads you see are for a big retainer that threads on and secures the carrier.
Looks like the retainers already gone??
How'd you get it off??

The carrier(in pic) is removed using a puller with long arms to reach in and hook the cross bars in the carrier.

They make a bunch of different kinds.
Google Yamaha outboard bearing carrier.
It shows a bunch of different kinds.

The carrier has a guide pin(hole at the top of pic) make sure it gets put back in the way it was removed.

The carrier might be seized and need some heat?? MAYBE??
DON'T hit the case with a hammer no matter how bad you want to.

Thanks for the info Jerry!! I have a spanner that I was able to remove the retainer with. The threads that hold the retainer in run clear through and are under the carrier. I had watched a couple of vids of guys using a puller, but those threads had me second guessing the process. I have a puller that I think will do the job. I’ll sprayed it good tonight with PB and will give it heck tomorrow. Once again...thank you for your help!!
