I have one of the dreaded L-drives 120 HP that I bought with terrible misjudgment and after some time did get it up and running( it hadn't run in years) It would not stay running at idle speed. Finally admitting defeat I took it to a marine repair guy who said most of the time these Force motors won't idle if the compression is low. He told me cyl #3 was 30 lbs. lower than the rest and that most likely the rings were stuck. I had already put a new head gasket in because it was missing when I found this boat. I have since removed the head and have been soaking the cylinders periodically with a combination of Seafoam and Marvel Mystery Oil, hoping to unstick the rings. Any other suggestions???
