120HP MERC/FORCE L DRIVE

I am contemplating a purchase of a 1992 Maxum with the 120hp merc/force l drive unit in it.Is there anything that I should be aware of and if there are any comments relating to this particular boat/motor combination it would be greatly be appreciated.Thank you,Alex.

Run like the wind in the other direction.<br /> Both motor and drive have a reputation for problems.And parts can be a mystery as well.

Alex,<br /><br />I'm in complete agreement with Steelspike.<br /><br />That drive system was an anomoly and its run, short lived.

I must add even if you like a challenge of a unpredictable drive system , the parts are becoming very hard to find.Walk away from it.

I've yet to hear anything positive about this powerplant.I stopped by the marine shop today & they too said to stay away.Even if I were to buy the boat for the right price a transplant to a more desireable powerplant is not possible as the hull was designed for this powerplant only.

One of my first thoughts was this boat was possibly underpowered.
