Help motor building up too much pressure!
I checked for red stator and good spark also rest of check list. Recently bought a 1995 120 sea ray renegade with supposedly dirty carbs. Before taking it out I added dry gas and cleaned the carbs. Well the boat ran fine for about 20 minutes then stalled when we parked. After stopping the boat it would not start and the starter locked up from some magnet chips from the flywheel. So, I removed the magnet pieces and replaced the starter with a rebuilt one. Now the Motor will turn over and start out of water but it seems like there is too much compression or pressure. ( The battery is only 500 CCA) Now when trying to start in the water starter, battery and wiring get hot to the point of smoking and melting wires. Also, motor bilds up so much pressure in water that motor will not turn over until i remove pluggs

I pulled all the plugs out and added oil to each cylinder. When I turn the fly wheel it gets caught up in the same spot every time. Any Ideas? Please help!

I dont know much, but have you pulled the flywheel and checked to see if any of the magnets on the underside of it are cracked or broken? Might help, might not

Re: 120sport jet ruogh turning over

I haven?t pulled the flywheel but there was some magnet on the bottom of it. The oil helped. I hand turned the flywheel with the plugs out and oil in each cylinder. There was a sticky spot and the oil seemed to work it out. It started instantly after replacing the plugs but I haven?t had a chance to get it in the water. I?m sure there are more issues with it. Like you said I need to pull the flywheel to see where the magnet came from but I need to find a puller and a flush kit. I don?t know where to shop. I should also run a compression check for the sticky spot. Any help would be appreciated. Thank please keep helping. I haven?t worked on many boats.

I didnt need a puller. I used one, but it lifted off pretty easily. Theres a key in there. Impact wrench on thhe top nut then try lifting the fly wheel strait up

Pull the flywheel , you will ruin the stator if the magnet is scraping it and producing the tight spot !
