I have a 125 mercury elpto and it started to run rough. So I took off the cowling to look at the motor. After I took it off I walked back up to the helm and looked back at the motor and seen the two yellow wires coming from the stator were on fire at the bullet connectors right next to the starter. I put it out no damage to the motor except the yellow stator wires were burnt. My question is I am pretty sure I need to replace the stator but di I need to replace R/R also..THANK YOU for any help...

The yellow wires are for the charging circuit or battery charging circuit. They go to the voltage regulator. You may need to replace the voltage regulator if this is the cause. In most cases you can take a ohm meter and measure the resistance from either yellow wire (stator) and to the motor ground and is should read open or infinte resistance. One of your windings may have developed a short or again the voltage regulator. In either case a short or very low resistance to motor ground has developed.
